Life Lately

So OK, I haven't updated in quite a long while. I'm sure it hasn't kept you up at night, and I'm sure you haven't missed me. I, however, have been itching to write and do miss me some bloggin'.

Here's a recap of my life lately, in pictures.

So I turned 27 on May 20 and my parents sent me these pretty flowers!

I decided to wear the same dress I wore for my 25th birthday out to a bar, which I enjoyed because the dress is one of my favorites and I never have an excuse to wear it. I spent the evening with 20 or so of my nearest and dearest Chicago friends. We gathered at Nick's Beer Garden in Wicker Park for some live music and great brews. Good times!

Andrew got me THE BEST BIRTHDAY GIFT EVER! Since our birthdays are a month apart, we decided we would get each other tickets to see Bruce Springstein at Wrigley Field...and on the actual day we get $10 gifts and a funny card. He totally stepped up his game with this mug. The pressure is on!

Then we moved! We tried to be crazy organized to help the movers and our sanity.

Teddy helped to keep everything organized.

And now, here are pictures of the new place!

Our pretty fireplace - the mantle is large enough for the TV - yay for space savers!

Andrew on the balcony. We love that the whole wall is windows!

Our kitchen!

I love the open floor plan in the space. It's very different from our previous apartment, but a washer/dryer in the unit, covered parking space (included in rent!), balcony, fireplace, dry cleaner and cafe in the building, 1-mile walk to work, and basic cable/Internet included in the rent definitely makes the move easier. Oh, and our last place (while beautiful and close to friends) was in an old building that had MANY problems.

Teddy lounged as we unpacked.

We made sure to toast our new place that evening!

Now my walk to work has this view! Oh and did I mention it's only 1 mile?!?!

And finally, here's the church we went to on Sunday as we started to look for our new church. Old St. Pat's is the oldest church in the city! It was such a fun Mass - yes, I wrote that correctly: it was fun! There was a gospel choir and the priest was a captivating speaker! Wow!

Phew! OK now that we're all caught up, tell me about you!!

Friday's Fancies!

Happy Friday!

Today I'm linking up with {av}'s Friday's Fancies on her blog Long Distance Loving. This week I decided to stray from the theme and dream up a Birthday outfit since I turn a year older on Sunday! (But check out the fun chambray outfits on her site!)

So if I had an extra 10K and lacked a conscience/moral compass, I would gleefully wear this get-up to galavant on my favorite day of the year! So let's just pretend all of these items were from the Macy's sale rack so I don't feel guilty for drooling, okay? Phew.

Friday's Fancies: Birthday Bash

First of all, the dress. Blue is my favorite color and I rarely shy from sequins, so I'm thinking this dress is the perfect fit for festivities. The shoes are as unique as they are chic. They're probably too high for this clumsy gal, but again, playing pretend is what Friday's Fancies is all about!! Let's move on to the accessories. That clutch is simple and accents the dress while the earrings and ring pump up the sparkle that (in my mind) is always acceptable for the Birthday girl.

I would wear this outfit with loose curls and simple pretty make-up.

What am I actually wearing this Saturday? Either a dress I've had for two years or a dress I've had for one. Both of which were previously worn on my Birthday. My accessories are all old, and the shoes, while new, were on sale at DSW. Reality sure does sting, doesn't it?!

Enjoy the sunny day and fun weekend!

Movin' On Up!

Aside from work all I can think about is moving. It's one week from today! I am so far behind on packing that this weekend (read: my Birthday) will be full of packing and cleaning and donating! Oh my!

We are excited that movers will be there to help us, especially since it's a work day so friends are not available to lend extra hands.

I have moved so many times in my adult life that I feel somewhat of an expert. This time around we're going to be even more super organized with packing so the movers can drop boxes in the correct places for ease of unpacking. Fingers crossed everything fits in the new space!

Do you have any moving tips, motivation, or play list suggestions? I'll be sure to post pictures!

Here are some classy photos for your Tuesday!

I love everything about this picture, especially how unrealistic it is.

This suit would be flattering on anyone!

This girl looks like a mean girl, but the outfit makes up for it. She also looks like she needs to eat a hamburger.

Preach on, Edith.

Time Flies!

I'm sure you aren't interested in why I disappeared in blog world for the last week. Don't worry, I'm not going to list excuses. OK fine, just one: when I get home late the last thing I want to do is look at a computer. No offense! I did miss all of you. Usually if I'm not posting it means nothing interesting is going on. My life right now involves working and getting ready for the move.

Thankfully I had a break this weekend and had some much-needed girl time. My friend came in for her bachelorette weekend! There were 10 ladies in all, and my oh my did we have fun. My face still hurts from laughing and smiling so much!

On Friday we ordered Giordano's, gabbed, and bar-hopped. Then Saturday we went touring around the city, got manicures, went to a show, and went out on the town! Here are just a few pictures from the weekend:

Snapped a picture of myself in the Bean

Cool shot, except Mandy and I had awkward arms

After touring Millennium Park we ventured to a BYOB nail salon

Mandy was a character in the Murder Mystery show in Wrigleyville, hence the pink wig. The show itself was a little lame, but Mandy and Cyd (and our table's outbursts!) definitely made it entertaining!
Allie and I at the dueling piano bar!

And last but not least, our best Olsen Twin faces

Have a good rest of your Monday!

Friday's Fancies: Decked Out for the Derby

Friday's Fancies on Long Distance Loving!
{via}

Happy Friday! Sorry for the lack of sass yesterday. Long story short, I have a severe sprain in my neck and shoulders so I took a day off of work and blogging. More muscle relaxer, less typing. It seemed to do the trick until 1pm today at work. I had had enough and am now home nursing my neck and laying down. What a way to waste a sunny day, right? Sigh...

Anyway, earlier this week I luckily created a set for this week's Friday's Fancies on {av}'s Long Distance Loving. This week's theme is all about the Derby tomorrow. This outfit makes me wish I would have gone to Gold Cup while I lived in DC!

I went with bright colors, wedges to prevent sinking into the grass, a hat to keep me shaded from the sun, and (of course) pearls.

Friday's Fancies: Day at the Derby

What would you wear for the Derby, or if you're in DC what are you wearing to Gold Cup? Do any fellow Chicagoans know if there is anything like Gold Cup here in Chicago?

Have a happy weekend!

Awards!!

Well color me flattered!

I recently "met" a new blogger, Kelly from simply kelly, and she and I became fast blog friends. I even told Andrew that I want to meet her the next time we're in Austin. Anyway, she nominated me for two awards, The Liebster Blog Award and the Tell Me About Yourself Award! Thank you, Kelly!!!!

The Liebster Blog Award is given to bloggers with under 200 followers to gain exposure. After some Googling, here is a description I found of the blog award origins: "The origins of the Liebster Blog award are somewhat unclear but the general consensus is that it originated in Germany, Liebster meaning favorite or dearest, to showcase bloggers with fewer than 200 followers. Upon accepting the award the recipient must then pass it on to five more blogs of note."

Rule time!
1. Thank your Liebster Award presenter on your blog (check!).
2. Link back the Blogger who awarded you (check!).
3. Give your top 5 picks for the award (scroll down!).
4. Inform your top 5 by commenting on their blog (will do!).
5. Post the award on your blog (duh.).

1. Thank and link back the person who awarded you (check!).
2. Write 7 random things about yourself (scroll down!).
3. Spread the love to 15 more bloggers (psh I'll give you 25).

7 random things? This may be hard to limit. I'm rather odd.

1. I love peanut butter. I eat it straight from the jar. Not just any peanut butter, though. No, no. Give me Better 'N Peanut Butter or give me...um, something else to snack on.

I scour every grocery store for this stuff, but it's hard to come by unless you shop at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods! Luckily I have found a couple of stores in Chicago that sell it, and my co-worker is even on the prowl for me: she brought me TWO jars when she went home for the weekend. That's how much I love this stuff.

2. Before I shower I HAVE to brush my teeth. That way I am completely clean after the shower! Andrew thinks this is so weird. Maybe it is, but I have to do it!

3. My family is as awesome and fun as it is huge: my mom is one of ten kids, so I have around 50 cousins and second cousins. That's a lot of weddings, baptisms, and graduations! Yes, I said "around." I kind of lost count.

3a. Another thing about my family: my parents are from Pittsburgh so I grew up a Steelers fan. I just love that team! Andrew and I met at the DC Steelers bar even though he is a devoted Lions fan, and he now cheers for them too!

4. Andrew and I go to as many sporting events as possible; when we lived in DC on Capitol Hill about a mile from Nationals Park we averaged one game a week. Cheap tickets + close proximity = Nats fans for life. In fact, our cat Teddy is named after one of the Nats racing president mascots, Teddy Roosevelt. Teddy has never won a race, but our cat Teddy won our hearts. (bahahaha I couldn't even type that without cracking up!)

5. In my perfect world I would be a size 4 and eat Chipotle or Pizza Hut every day of the week. For dessert? Brownie sundaes or cheesecake of course!

6. While I may post about fashion (whether the style is classy or sassy), my style-loving heart actually belongs to Old Navy Performance Fleece.

7. Since my appearance isn't as high as a priority as it should be, on the rare days I look like a woman I get myself into trouble. How? Well, once I walked into a wall because I was checking out/admiring my hair in a store window while walking. Look both ways after you style your hair, folks!
