Wedding Wednesday: Card Boxes

Wedding Wednesday

Happy Wedding Wednesday!

What are all of you doing for card boxes?

While I think bird cages, open vintage suitcases, and wire-type containers are cute and whimsical, I just don't feel that they are very secure. Too many "what if" moments flash through my mind.

Some of the ones I have seen on Etsy are PRICEY, which I think is silly.

I'm not sure what to do, and my Mom and I may DIY one, but here are a few that I like that will serve as inspiration:

1 | 2 | 3
4 | 5
6 | 7

Obviously the "Up" mailbox isn't secure, but I just love "Up" so I had to include it!

What do you think? Have you decided what you will do for yours? If you're already married, what container carried your cards?

I made our card box and I love the way it came out even more than my Pinterest inspiration for it. It was actually really easy and you can make it any way you want (and much cheaper than buying on etsy too).

Here's the link to what I did: http://erickamarie87.blogspot.com/2013/06/saw-it-pinned-it-did-it-diy-wedding.html

The security thing is a big issue so it's great to consider. I honestly didn't even think about it at first. I got a hat box from Tj Maxx or somewhere, cut a slit in the top, and then covered the top and bottom separately with fabric. The fabric barrier made for a snug fit so both hands would be required to open it and it would be really obvious if someone went digging in it. I also had it in a high-traffic area, so that helped. Good luck! Your inspiration pics look great!

I love the UP mail box, so cute.

My mom actually found a box at home and then my sisters boyfriend wrapped it in wedding paper. It looked incredible and was super cheap and easy.

I LOVE the Up mailbox idea!!! I'm sure you'd be able to make something pretty spectacular, and then it's more personal and special for your big day! I think my sister just used a regular cardboard box, but wrapped it in a fabric that matched her theme colors, and kept the cover on with a slit in the top so nothing could get misplaced!

These are all so cute! We used suitcases but luckily, they actually locked! You can never be too careful though. These are all such cute options!

Ah! Another thing to add to my list of stuff that I still have to do! All of those are cute though!

I hadn't thought about the security factor. I hope no one would steal anything at our wedding. How tacky would that be? We have an open box that we found at Hobby Lobby. It's hard to explain! But I think they will end up being really cute once they are decorated.

OMGATOS! I didn't think of the security factor. I didn't even think that someone would just take a card out of the box :( I am looking for a suitcase, but now I'm not sure what to do!

I like #1 :) Our venue supplies a birdcage. I've seen it and it seems secure.

We had the same "secure" talk when we planned ours and ultimately went with one of those decorated cardboard boxes they sell at JoAnns with a lid. (I think they are called photo boxes or something?) I put a card size cut out on top and taped the lid down. It looked cute, was very inexpensive and fit the "secure" criteria for us. (I totally wanted to use a suitcase or wire lanters/cage or something though!)

We did a birdcage for our July wedding and it worked out perfectly! I hadn't even thought about the safety issue honestly haha but luckily our gift table was right in the middle of everything so I don't think it would have gone unnoticed if someone was taking stuff out. I do love your 1st option though - so pretty!

We had a tall rectangular post box that I decorated to match the rest of the theme. Nothing quite as fancy as these but it matched everything we had perfectly!
