Mary's Musings...Wednesday

{via}

Hi everyone! I absolutely intended to post this on Monday, but alas the week has gotten away from me.
[Wow I just had a flashback to high school when I said that I had "intended" to do some lame project and proceeded to make an excuse. Keeping in mind I went to a Catholic school, a teacher said to me, "You know, Mary, the road to Hell was paved with good intentions." I digress.]

For today's post I decided to share an article I read last week. It got me thinkin', lemme tell ya.

Refinery 29, a really fun style blog, posted an article on 3/22 called "10 Things You're Wearing That Could Kill You." Fully intrigued by my impending demise, I clicked through the slideshow to read some alarming fashion pitfalls. Some were, admittedly, quite Darwin Award-worthy, but most made me think twice about certain choices. Please read the quick article.

Now let's dissect. Here are some items that could cause harm:
  1. Scarves. Oh my. I am wearing a scarf right now. The next time I am in a car I will ensure that all garments are accounted for before operating or entering any vehicles. Some things are worth the risk, friends.
  2. Platform Shoes. No problem there. I may own heels and trip up stairs when I wear flats, but platforms are not my thing.
  3. Skinny jeans. Crap. I bought a pair at Target recently and love them. Tick tock.
  4. Oversized purses. Uh oh. My bag is huge, contains my computer and my life, and completely weighs me down. I feel like my right shoulder has an indent in it.
  5. Flip-flops. Noooo don't take those away from me! However, please see #2. Foot gear aside, maybe I should just focus on my posture, balance, and overall coordination. Baby steps.
  6. Cheap jewelry. Well, I guess this gives me even more reason to wear my pearls.
  7. Wedding rings. Not a problem right now, but it definitely made me think.
  8. Keratin. Can't afford it so I'm the in the clear! Whew!
  9. Expired beauty products. I'm absolutely certain I am guilty of this one. I also need to clean those pesky brushes...
  10. Colored contacts. God blessed me with these baby blues, so I'm all set there. But I hate contacts. They destroy my eyes anyway.
What do all of you think? Are you guilty of these habits too? Tell me I'm not alone! :)

Friday's Fancies: March Madness!

{via}

It's here! Friday! Yay!

As promised, I will not blog about The Hunger Games. All I will say is that I want to see it again.

Moving on...

It's Friday's Fancies time! The lovely {av} over at Long Distance Loving has yet another fun theme for today: March Madness! My Hoyas did not make it to this round of the dance, but I still wanted to participate. You see, I have been so very homesick for DC lately, especially knowing that the District is currently in full bloom. From Cherry Blossoms to budding trees to even the pollen, I miss DC like crazy. Enter Fridays Fancies and I had to take the opportunity to bust out the preppy spring wardrobe.
Friday's Fancies: Georgetown

Georgetown colors are blue and gray, but I chose to stick with the navy preppy look for today. I picture wearing this on the roof of the Car Barn overlooking the Potomac River, chatting with my friends and snacking on delicious Oreo cookies from Wisey's. Then we would grab boat drinks at Sequoia on the Georgetown Waterfront. Ahhh memories. I feel like I have seen this look on campus and around M & Wisconsin for years. I have always loved this classic look. Of course I picked terribly expensive pieces I will never own, such as the lust-worthy Tory Burch sandals and dramatic Kate Spade necklace. Since Vineyard Vines is a few blocks from campus, many ladies truck around these totes so I had to include one.

So how did I do Carly and {av}? Did I capture the Georgetown vibe? :)

Head on over to see the team spirit on Long Distance Loving! Have a great weekend!

Little Bit of Sass Thursday

I can hardly contain my excitement!!!! Today after work I'm hopping over to the River East Theatre to view a screening of the Hunger Games! The film starts at 6:30! Don't worry, I will not blog about specifics, so I won't ruin anything...even though we all know the outcome. Anyway, I just had to share that snippet of fun.

Enough of the snippet, though, on to the sass!

This is the kind of dress that I would buy and THEN plan an event, not the other way around. I want this dress and all of the parties I plan to throw and events I plan to attend while wearing this dress.

Oh How Pinteresting!

Happy Hump Day, folks! I'm linking up with The Vintage Apple today to share some pinteresting pics.

I'll take a glass of champagne in my stone tub, thanks.

So smart. Why didn't I think of that?!?!

This is too cool. I really want this in my future home (as long as I have enough closet space in other areas of the house!)

I want to do something like this for my desk.

I love everything about this outfit. Want, want, want!

My hair didn't look this good when I tried it a while ago. Practice makes perfect, perhaps?

Are you on Pinterest? Let's be friends!
Hope you have a great day!

Little Bit of Class Tuesday

Photobucket

Happy First Day of Spring, everyone! The weather in Chicago consists of record-breaking highs in the high 70s and low 80s. It's usually in the 40s and 50s this time of year, so I am embracing the sunshine while we have it. As a Midwestern gal, I know it can be in the 80s one day and the 30s the next, so I'm outside whenever possible.

Today I thought I would share some spring-inspired classy looks, c/o my pinterest classy board.

Let's talk about how simple, elegant and classic this look is, shall we? This outfit makes me want to go to a garden party, sip tea, throw on a floppy hat and cheer on a horse race (Pretty Woman style, of course.)

This outfit is too cute for words. Picnic, anyone?

Oh Jackie O., such a classic fashion icon. I love everything about that look.

"Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking." haha I couldn't help throwing in a Devil Wears Prada quote, but seriously I love this dress. However, IMHO this model looks too sassy for the dress. I would pair this with simple and pretty make-up, pearls, curls, and a sweet clutch for Easter Mass.

And, finally, how could I pass up an image that epitomizes the title of my blog? Classy AND sassy China tea cups? Sign me up!

Instagram Weekend Photo Link-Up

Photobucket

This weekend was completely packed full of fun. As I wrote in my Friday's Fancies post, I fully intended to make the most of the sassiest of holidays, and I think I did pretty well. Let's recap while linking up with a {little} dash of ash, shall we?

On Friday night, I went with a small group to see Jersey Shore the Musical at Studio Be in Lincoln Park. Yes, you read that correctly. A very funny group of people wrote a spoof musical of the "lovable" crew from the shore. I cracked up the whole time. Our programs got us a free drink at Trader Todd's down the street where I got to meet and pose with the cast.

You should have seen them in costume. From left to right: Pauly D. sneaking in, Snooki (she was incredible), Maureen (obviously not in the cast!), JWoww, moi, and Sammi

Obviously I couldn't leave without paying respect to The Situation.

Saturday morning Andrew and I ventured over to Wrigleyville for a rowdy party. It was the perfect start to the day.

I love the Old Style sign!

We hopped along to Murphy's Bleachers for solid people-watching and merriment in the sun.

And all day yesterday we watched basketball at my favorite bar, Justin's! I didn't snap any pictures and even though my Hoyas lost, it was a great time!

Have a good week!

Friday's Fancies: Luck 'O' the Irish

Friday's Fancies on Long Distance Loving!
{via}

Hello lads and lasses! It's finally Friday! Anyone else want to fast-forward to 5pm so we can get the party started?!?!

First of all, I have to wish my Hoyas a good game today at 2! HOYA SAXA!!!

Second, over at {av}'s blog, Long Distance Loving, the theme for Friday's Fancies is St. Patty's Day. How perfect! Here's my get-up for the sassiest of all holidays, St. Patrick's Day!

Friday's Fancies St Patrick's Day

Tomorrow marks my first Chicago St. Patrick's Day. I could not be more excited to participate! There are parties to attend, bars to patron, and green beer to drink. I decided to use polyvore to fashion my wardrobe for tomorrow if I had all the money in the world. Of course that means a rockin' jacket, j. crew flats, and a Tory Burch envelope clutch. The goal for tomorrow is to be cute but practical: heels would be a bad idea and I think I would be uncomfortable in a skirt. Hence, the pants and flats option. I threw in some Celtic knot earrings I thought were cute, and no holiday would be complete for me without something ridiculous on my head. Shamrock head boppers it is.

I'll raise a glass to all of you tomorrow. Slainte!!!
