Layered Looks for Fall

Little Bit of Class Little Bit of Sass

Hey gang!
Can I get a show of hands for how many of you love ModCloth?
I looove ModCloth!
A lovely lady from ModCloth asked me this week to write about fall style, inspired by pieces featured on their site. Scour their site and create a style board on polyvore for real stylists to view?
I mean, twist my arm.
Sign. Me. Up.
I didn't receive anything for this post and opinions are my own. Other bloggers are also writing about their favorite fall styles and winners will be chosen on a weekly basis by ModCloth stylists to be featured on social media. I would love to be chosen!
Now on to the challenge!
Layered looks are the only option in Chicago during about 9 months out of the year.
Basically, I'm all over layers.
Honestly it's tough to choose which pieces from ModCloth to use for this post since there are soooo many that I want (especially all of their awesome sweaters!), but I found an incredible sweater that I must add to my bag! I would take it in all colors, but I'm featuring the Oatmeal shade below:
Fall Layers featuring ModCloth

The coat, the boots, the earrings and the sweater are all on ModCloth. How amazing is that coat?!?
I would wear this whole outfit to work or on the weekends out and about in the afternoons. I just love the whole look. I could seriously wear that sweater every day, too. Another way I'm picturing it is with some leggings, cozy socks, some coffee and a good book.
And because I was having fun, here's a look I'd love for a fancy evening out!
Sparkles and ModCloth Dress

I just adore that dress!! I would wear this to fall and winter events for sure! I love that the colors are unique and stand out without being obnoxious. It's just so pretty!
OK I better stop before I get carried away!
How would you style a casual fall look?
Have a good one!

Friday's Fancies

Happy Friday!
I'm linking up today with {av} from long distance loving for her weekly Friday's Fancies
In terms of fashion all I can think about lately is what to wear for our engagement shoot in Chicago in October. I'm picturing colorful leaves, crisp weather and the beautiful backdrop of our city.
But what's a girl (on a budget) to wear?
I definitely want a classic look: when I look back at these photos down the road I want to still enjoy them. If I cringe at the style choice then that's a bad thing.
While I contemplate that obstacle, here's a little something I would sport if I could:

What do you think? Too plain? Do I need to think about colors?

Enjoy your weekend!

Friday's Fancies: Lovely Layers

{via}

Yay!!! It's Friday!!!!!

I love my layers here in Chicago, so obviously I'm participating this week in {av}'s Friday's Fancies on long distance loving.

Friday's Fancies: Layered

OK so a dress is a bold choice in Chicago.

However, those tights are lined with fleece. The dress is a long sweater and I'd wear something under it. The coat is long and goes up to the face. The boots are high.
Hence, I'd probably sweat in this getup.

Normally I wear a scarf, but the coat doesn't look like it allows much room for one. While I love my Hunter wellies I severely want those Sorels. They just look so cozy! I've also been eyeing the Kate Spade mittens and earrings for some time. The Rag & Bone hat is calling my name, too. I have a North Face coat that looks nothing like the chic one pictured in this ensemble. Mine looks and feels like I'm walking in a sleeping bag...and I LOVE it. Seriously, investing in non-flattering outerwear was one of the smartest things I've ever done.

Anyway, I want this outfit.

Go check out more layers on long distance loving today and enjoy your weekend!

{via}

Happy Friday! I couldn't wait for the theme this week on Friday's Fancies at long distance loving! Tonight is my work holiday party so I'm absolutely rocking some sparkles!

Here's what I'd wear out on the town (not a work party!) if I could add some more sparkle to my closet:

Well the H&M skirt and beauty products are affordable...but not anything else! Whatever. I love to dream, and when you dream in sparkles you always win!

Friday's Fancies...A Week Behind

{via}

So I was a little busy (!!!) last Friday and didn't get to post my outfit for Friday's Fancies on long distance loving.

Here we go, a week late!

Friday's Fancies Fireside Chat

I would love to wear this over the weekend and sit by the fire with my fiance (!!!).

I'm not entirely sad that this won't be happening, though. My sister (and my niece!!!!) are on their way to the Windy City! I can't wait to see them!

Hope you enjoy your weekend!

Friday's Fancies: Comfy Cozy!

   {via}

I am so excited for the Friday's Fancies theme on long distance loving today: Sweater Season.
Now we're talkin'.

Friday's Fancies Sweater Season

This is my Saturday uniform, if you will.

Well, it would be if I never had anything to do on Saturdays.
...aaaand if I could justify spending that much on a lounge sweatshirt.
(Who am I kidding? I'd wear that sweater out and about. It's very cute.)

First of all, sweater or not, my idea of comfy is Old Navy Performance Fleece. No fleece is sweeter, friends.

Second, a fire, a good book and a coffee? Snuggled in a blanket (with Andrew and the cat)? Bliss.

Man, now I just want to lay around all day.

Sigh...

What's your go-to lounge-wear?  Ever splurge on anything even if you know you'll only wear it around the house? Please go check out the other comfy cozy outfits today at long distance loving!

Enjoy your weekend!

Friday's Fancies: Marvelous Monotone

{via}

Happy Friday, party people!

I love the theme at long distance loving today, where we marvel over monotone colors.

Friday's Fancies Marvelous Monotone

I happen to think that mixing colors from the same family is so chic, clean, and classic.
It's like a triple threat, really.

Don't click through to see each individual piece. It's disgusting how expensive everything is, but goodness Burberry, Alexander Wang, and Christian Louboutin sure know their stuff.

Then again...
I would trip and fall after one step in those shoes.
And everything would be stained in coffee within minutes.
And I would probably lose that bag.
(That's a lie, if I had that bag I would grasp that sucker until my knuckles turned white and never let go.)

But a girl can dream.

Have a happy and fun weekend, friends!

Friday's Fancies: Crushing on Chicago

Happy Friday, party people!

Today at long distance loving the theme is to recreate an outfit we've seen - and fallen for - across the interwebs.  Any look at my My (Wannabe) Style board on Pinterest will tell you that I have quite a crush on fall fashion. Sweater? Blazer? Boots? Belt? In various colors? Swoon.

How to choose just one look?

Well, I added another variable on Wednesday.

You see, our good friend from DC paid us a visit and we went to the Hancock Building for after work drinks. During sunset. Let me paint a picture.

OK well first I have to share the swizzle stick from Andrew's drink. It was in the shape of the building. So cute.

And now for amazing pictures from the best view in the city: the women's restroom of the Hancock Building:

The second one is my absolute favorite.

OK so back to Friday's Fancies, because that's why I'm linking up, after all.

I created an outfit inspired by my pins on my My (Wannabe) Style Pinterest Board as if I was going back to the Hancock for more sunset sipping.
Friday's Fancies Chicago Crush

My fall color crush is wine. Funny, 'cuz I enjoy a nice glass in the fall, too (OK fine, I love wine year-round). I love wine pieces paired with leopard print as well. Hence, my outfit. Sure it doesn't look like anything from my board, but oh well, it has similar themes: jeans, cinched waist, leopard print, wine. Sounds good.

So what do you think?

Have a great weekend!

Friday's Fancies: Game Day!

Happy Friday, party people!

I am so excited for the Game Day Friday's Fancies theme at long distance loving today.

By now you all know of my love for the Steelers, so obviously that's the team I am going with for today's post.

OK if you didn't know I love the Steelers here's why: my parents are from Pittsburgh and raised us fans. We visit there often since my family is huge and it's a pretty city. Honestly one of my first memories is sitting in the basement with my family on my dad's lap while he yelled at the Steelers on TV. I've been a fan my whole life, through good times and bad times, Super Bowls and losing seasons. It's fun to cheer for them every week even though most of their games give me heart attacks!

It's OK if you don't like the Steelers. Most of my friends truly hate them. It doesn't bother me. Living in Ohio my Browns and Bengals friends always gave me grief and living in DC (close proximity to those gross Ravens in Baltimore) I got my fair share of jeers. Whatever, we can all agree that football is awesome, so that's all that matters!

Here's my game day garb and an inspired look. What? Black and gold is an awesome color combo! I couldn't resist!

Friday's Fancies Game Day

Let's break it down.

I love a good jersey. I always get the Male Youth Large and it fits perfectly. You will never see me in a pink jersey. I just can't get behind them. I don't have a Polamalu jersey (like the one pictured) but I do have Ward and Bradshaw, which I love. I actually do have Terrible Towel earrings. Flats are key for me because if I'm at the bar I'm standing (and jumping, and yelling, and dancing). Oh and the Yuengling reminds me of the Steelers Bar in DC, so that's my drink of choice during the games. By the way, it sucks you can't get it in Chicago!

I thought it would be fun to do a game day-inspired look as well. I classed it up with some hot boots, gold clutch and a Dark & Stormy. Throw in some simple baubles, paint my nails red, and boom. Ready for a night out.

What's your favorite team or teams?

Have a happy weekend!

Fridays Fancies!

Happy, happy, HAPPY Friday!

Can you tell how pumped I am to sleep in tomorrow?!?! I started a new workout regimen this week and I am hurting for some R&R!

Today I'm linking up with {av} from long distance loving for Friday's Fancies! This week's theme hails to the gorgeous gingham print. I have always gravitated toward the classic pattern so participating this week was a no-brainer.

However, I decided to dress up my gingham. Usually I'd go the casual route by pairing a gingham button down with shorts or wearing a gingham skirt...but when I saw a classy dress on polyvore I couldn't resist upping the ante.

Friday's Fancies Gingham Gorg

It can be easy to be matchy-matchy when you wear black and white, but I decided to pick unexpected pops of color to round out the ensemble with the blue strap in the shoe and the coral clutch.

Not only do I REALLY want a monogrammed bracelet, but now that I've seen these shoes I feel like I just plain need them. My bank account disagrees, so I will just worship from afar.

Stop by long distance loving to check out the rest of the gorgeous gingham creations!

Have a fun weekend!
